Artist Statement

My journey in the art of photography started in the summer of 2024 after my father gifted me a used Nikon D7000. At first, I struggled to take pictures, but I had a deep desire to create and connect with subjects that were meaningful to me. This program, “The View from Here,” helped me grow and develop as a photographer and improve my work through composition, lighting, and color. I uncovered ways to create soulful photos of people close to me.

I aspire to improve and grow in my ability to capture different points in time, ranging from a simple and ordinary experience to an emotionally charged moment. It is my hope that viewers of my work relate to my photos. They may feel the intensity of self-conflict, or perceive a more radiant feeling in the other lighthearted interactions I document. The photos that are most important to me evoke a sentiment, reflect a message, and tell a story.

This is why photography has become my creative oasis. It can trigger different moods and emotions, and hopefully move people the way it has moved me. Capturing images through photography is a way for me to connect with others, share different perspectives, and make discoveries beyond what meets the eye.
